I’m Vegetarian. What’s your problem?

I don’t know with other vegetarians out there but I get annoyed and irritated at times when people wonder how I’ve turned vegetarian, why I turned vegetarian or How come I don’t look like I’m vegetarian (What do vegetarians looks like anyway?). It makes me want to break their bones and make them realize that being vegetarian doesn’t mean you’ll be stick thin or make you lose weight drastically. The sole reason I opted to exclude certain meats in my diet is because of the hormonal imbalance that I have to fix in my system since I ballooned when I was induced with steroids 2 years ago. When I got back to yoga, thanks to the influence of Divine Wellness, I felt better.

I no longer drink hormonal imbalance medicines anymore such as birth control pills to keep my ovulation up-to-date, I wake up lighter and definitely have a lot of changes in my body system including bowel movement. I may have lost few weight with the help of the lifestyle change but it certainly isn’t purely because of the choice I’ve made in my food restriction but it was also because of the mileage I have to endure. People forget that being a vegetarian means you’ll have more carbohydrates in your diet even if it’s filled with fiber and nutrients.

I declared myself as flexitarian back in 2008 hence the name of my blog The Flexitarian Runaholic Diaries. Late last year slowly with the help of Divine Wellness, I gradually became  Pollotarian until I have finally made amendment to let go of poultry into a Pescetarian (Pesco-lacto-ovo Vegetarian) but then again, only a percentage of people knows what each means.

What’s the easiest way to describe your choice of menu? simply say you’re vegetarian, they’ll instantly understand from the first few letters of the word: VEGET (for Vegetables) regardless on what type of vegetarian you are but when you’re together with a purist, don’t mistake on saying you’re vegetarian without being specific  but then again, purists or vegans would call themselves as purists or vegan rather than vegetarian.

If you say “I’m Semi-Vegetarian”, there are a lot of questions asked after. Ah, I’d rather stick to the easiest way to describe my food preference; what about you?

For everyone’s knowledge, there are different types of vegatarians:

  • The Purist exculdes all types of animals, and dairy
  • Raw Vegan  incudes only fresh fruits, uncooked fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables
  • Macrobiotic Vegetarianism consists mostly beans, seeds and whole grain
  • Fruitarianism includes only fruits, nuts and seeds and other foods that doesn’t harm another plant.
  • Buddhist Vegetarianism  excludes all animal products as well as vegetables in the allium family (which have the characteristic aroma of onion and garlic): onion, garlic, scallions, leeks, or shallots.
  • Pesco Vegetarian   includes fish
  • Ovo Vegetarianism includes eggs but not dairy products
  • Lacto Vegetrianism includes dairy products but not eggs
  • Ovo-Lacto Vegetarianism includes both eggs and dairy/animal products/products

Aside from these, there are other types of vegetarianism which evolved

  • Flexitarians is what they infamously known as “a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat”
  • Pollotarians eat chicken or other poultry, but not red meat.
  • Pescetarians eat fish or other seafood, but not red meat or poultry.

Intiendes?! I no longer want to explain myself nor ever find the need to explain myself about this ever again. I don’t question your preference, don’t question mines. It is the choice I made, not yours. Don’t look at me from head to toe for not being Olive oil (Popeye) or for being a Chunky Vegetarian. Again, let me reiterate: Vegetables are Carbohydrates, being a vegetarian won’t make you as thin as paper – It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. Please, stop associating being a Vegetarian as deprivation.

Instead, why don’t you try being vegan or vegetarian yourself? Guaranteed, your body will thank you for it.

Anxiety Free Job Search

Looking for a job can be such a grueling task especially when the funds are starting to show deliquesce, bills are about to pile in and your belly is beginning to protrude. Mounting a job search for a new position or what you think seems to be rightfully aligned to your skills or your degree takes perseverance, patience, diligence and a weight of willingness to stretch out of our comfort zone. Everyone wants their career to sky-rocket and achieve a transition of change but searching is no joke – although some enjoy the acceptance for interviews, collecting job offers and praying over which of the choices should you give your career a chance to grow into.

Even job searching requires time and effort hence in a non-billable wording, it is billable to your efforts.

Here are few tips to keep yourself FOCUSED and ALIGNED to your goals:

Be Optimistic. Stay Positive

Clouds of failure will redirect to negative attractions and bad news. When you attend interviews it depletes your self-esteem and what you’re confident of. Apply to classified ads and as you hit the send button know that you’ll nail it and that eventually one of those applications you’ve sent will be yours. Repeat after me “Success is Mine

Plan your Day. Stay Organized

Just like at work or when working on a project, make this job search your personal project. Give yourself a timeline on the hours you put effort on job search, self-actualization, personal development and other things including the time you spend on facebook and snooze. Make a spreadsheet which includes the date and time you sent in your applications and when you’ll follow-up on your applications; keep your efforts at par – never waste time.

Connect. Network. Socialize

You meet people every day, get to know them – what they do, where they work and how do they do things. Every day is an opportunity to open gates to beginnings. Tell your friends your situation, seek for their help – especially those who work for the company you’re aiming for or industry you’d want to be part of. Keeping yourself well connected helps you speed up your job search and adds more credibility by referrals. Get to know people. Attend conferences or events that are aligned to your interest – you wouldn’t know what’s going to happen next, maybe you don’t need a job search anymore and all they need are consultants which cater and tailors to your craft and skills.

Be Informed. Stay Informed

You meet different people every day, you get to bump into different stores and stumble across a lot of random articles on the internet and even news from Twitter. Keep yourself abreast with a whole wide range of topics and try to grasp as much knowledge and practice in basic working skills especially Microsoft Office and Adobe photoshop. Hop into different dailies sites locally and international – its a world filled with information, cite your opinions and gain perspective towards others opinions.

Use the power of the Internet

With the wide range of opportunties online, it’s impossible for one not to score a gig. If you’re a creative individual who’s craft falls in writing and services, here are few options:

If you’re a photographer, you may make use of that passion and contribute for stock photos.

If you’re into teaching and speak good english, there are few where you may guide koreans and japanese to learn the language.

Take Care of yourself. Stay Well.

When you take good care of yourself, it shows and you glow.

Simple equation: When you feel good, everything else falls into the optimistic side of things. When you’re in a job search, it doesn’t mean you’ll go out on a binge spree or drinking session every single night – remember your timetable? make every day as normal as it is as if you’re on a job. Rest, eat right and exercise. “No matter if you are working or not searching for a new position takes a lot of mental and physical stamina. Pay attention to your health. It is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Keeping yourself focused and wise, taking good care of yourself and keeping that optimism would certainly make your job search bearable than stressful.  Don’t box yourself to anxiety, you’ll have this job search fly by in a breeze and you’ll have that job you’ve always wanted. Good Luck!

Shabu Yaki : Enjoy your Vegetables

Between the two of us, I’m the only pesco-lacto-ovo vegetarian albeit he’s trying not to have meat every now and then especially when we’re eating out, I appreciate the effort and the willingness of him sharing my plate and not indulging on a carnivorous treat.

Tonight although he was turning out to be a little monster who was giving me an attitude already for not having to decide on what to eat for dinner, we had to transfer from one restaurant to another, in order for me to win not to go for pasta, chicken and fried foods – the treat was on me.


But look who enjoyed the food most?

I can live with other uncomfortable things such as riding the bus, walking the distance or a little bit of sun, but never will I compromise on food.


Our first Shabu Shabu dinner

For a gastronomic healthy dinner of Php 499 at Shabu Yaki located at Aguirre Ave. Bf Homes Paraque. Chicken Broth and Seafood Shabu Shabu, we were already set for a healthy meal. The mood changed soon as he took a sip of the soup, a taste of the clams and the shrimps.

Had Calamansi Juice to cleanse our palate for Php 50.



Surely enjoyed our fresh vegetables! The attendants were friendly enough to take our orders, and requests. They accept credit card payments, too!

Because I was not much of a eater, we even managed to take home few greens, dimsum and warm broth home for my boys. Are we going to go back and visit? Yes, why not. I’m all for the vegetarian meal – No rice, too!

The shabu shabu choices can feed 3-4 people.

Floppy Disks – Still used for storage

This is going to be a quick post.

I went to Naturalizer (Glorietta) to pick-up my new favorite comfortable shoes which they sent off for repair. Aside from my favorite sales ladies who were congenial, well-knowledgeable, efficient and helpful, they gave me a huge dose of laughter. Look what I found on top of their cashier table:

Old school to modern day files

Yes, they still use these old-school Floppy disks for data storage which means they still use the old-school computers, too! Apparently, the old disks are still being used and never was saved for back-up through USB’s or CD’s as the owners think these floppy disks restores files much longer and safer than modern day memory cards.

I asked permission if I can take a shot of the disks as evidence for my blog. We all giggled and agreed.

Touchdown Manila: ZUMBA

I have been looking for ZUMBA in Metro Manila (for 2 years now), thought of asking friends and tried to seek for certified teachers but there was no one who can officially have it launched. twenty one plates

A little few hours after swimming, I received a call from the boyfriend asking “Where are we eating dinner tonight?” on his way to pick me up  for a sunday dinner date. While I was affixing myself, I answered “give me 2 minutes, let me google”

During training runs, I pass by a lot of restaurants and do mental note on few restaurants I’ve been curious of. I remembered twenty-one plates.

I rang and imposed  “twenty one plates. It’s just nearby. I know where it is, Aguirre ave.” which is very much in favor knowing its close proximity.

Soon as we got to the location, while parking, he exclaimed “It looks like a fine dining restaurant, we’re wearing shorts!” I had to explain and said “Actually, It can be a fine dining restaurant but it’s not. Don’t worry about it.”

Upon entering, we were welcomed by the owner, Mr. Mico Miciano and his cute little kid, was introduced to his wife, the chef – Tinette Villanueva-Miciano and told us a little information about Twenty-One Plates.

I already did my homework, a little research but coming from the words of the owners themselves – it was nice to know that they welcome their guests close to comfort and be familiarized on the history of the location and who’s behind the gastronomic menu at twenty one plates.

serious about being unemployed

Been in and out of employment? the unbearable eenui, you must be utmost bored. The  unemployed status may perhaps already been thawing your brain. A friend would say in the moment of your luxurious license to procrastinate and having the freedom on being idle; in a non-offensive yet brutally honest response, “Now you’ve got time: Read a book, find a hobby, volunteer or find a charity!

You see, when you’re unemployed there are Pro’s and Con’s.  You become the most frugal person on earth but that doesn’t mean there’s no solution or you’ll bore yourself all throughout.  Here are few remedies to still have a life on a quite frugal way:

1. Day dates

– You can’t even afford to watch a movie at the theaters and munch on your favorite popcorn but because of that, you get to watch more movies at home since there’s such a thing as TORRENTS. Download all the way!

2. Ouch on your pocket for everyday GNO ( Girls Night Out)

– But that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be able to see your girls and your friends anymore. Most are more into hanging out on their own homes and prefer having overnight happenings.

3. No Load for your phone? How do you keep in touch? Yikes!

– Fear not. Just as long as you have your computer with you and internet access you’ll be fine. Facebook, twitter and Chikka.com are all accessible. Everyone’s in touch through social networks and if you need to reply to phone messages, log in for free through Chikka!

4. Brain drain?

– So, you can’t afford to buy that book you’ve always wanted. Why don’t you go ahead and see if the world wide web has the ebooks ready for free? the cyberspace has tons of freebies. You may also start reading those books unread from your bookshelves.

5. You’ve got time but no funds for the gym

– Why need the gym? You’ve got your own body weight to carry and you’ve got your legs to use for running. There’s a huge road out there which you can walk on to and take a route for. There’s no excuse when it comes to exercise. You’ve got time, kill the time by sweating it out!

6. Quick Fix Funds? Earn & Donate!

– Go for a garage sale. clean your room and you’ll be surprised on the things which you no longer need yet you may actually let others use. Call out on your friends and ask maybe they have few things to throw out. Then have the remains from the garage sale donated to the Church. You gained, You helped and You re-organized your life away from clutter.

7. Whip something, Business!

God has created us equally with skills, desires and wants. If you love to bake, go ahead and whip out something and have your relatives tastes them. Sell few, see how it’ll turn out. You’ll be surprised on the outcome. Call a friend, if they’ve got ideas, why not talk through it and come up on a small business? You may also call out your entrepreneural friends and do their marketing then earn through commission. You’ve got the luxury of time – why not!

When you’re back employed, please don’t forget to save 10% of your earning to a fund-that-can-never-be-touched and a fraction of it for your own privileges but be mindful on the bills first before anything else.  Hope you enjoyed my quick tips!
